Water-based acrylic resin and water-based acrylic emulsion have the following differences:

1.Appearance:

Water based acrylic resin: available in a variety of forms, both solid and liquid. Solid water-based acrylic resin is powder, need to be diluted with water after use; Liquid water-based acrylic resin can be transparent or milky liquid, its particle size is relatively small, generally in a nanoscale dispersion state.

• Water-based acrylic emulsion: A viscous liquid, usually milky white with blue light in appearance, belongs to a water dispersion system in which water is a continuous phase and acrylic resin is dispersed in the form of tiny particles in the water.

2.Composition:

• Water-based acrylic resin: The main component is a polymer formed by polymerization of acrylic monomers, and may contain small amounts of other additives or additives to improve its performance.Hydrophilization can be achieved in a variety of ways, such as by introducing hydrophilic groups into the molecular chain, or by copolymerization with other monomers with hydrophilic groups.

Water-based acrylic emulsion:In addition to acrylic resin, the main components also contain water, surfactants, emulsifiers and so on.Among them, the role of surfactants and emulsifiers is to make the acrylic resin can be stably dispersed in water, forming an emulsion.

3.Production process:

• Water-based acrylic resin:there are many synthesis methods, such as solution polymerization, step by step solution polymerization, etc. These methods are usually in organic solvents or water-based media, under the action of the initiator to polymerization of acrylate monomers, and then by removing the solvent or neutralizing treatment, water-based acrylic resin.

Water-based acrylic emulsion: mainly produced by emulsion polymerization. After mixing acrylate monomer, water, initiator, emulsifier, etc., the emulsion polymerization reaction is carried out under certain temperature and stirring conditions, so that the monomer is polymerized into acrylic resin particles, and dispersed in the water phase to form emulsion.

4.Performance characteristics:

Stability

• Water-based acrylic resin: the stability of its water dispersion or aqueous solution is relatively high, and it is not easy to be affected by external factors and occur demilking, precipitation and other phenomena, but the solid resin needs to pay attention to moisture and avoid agglomeration during storage and use.

• Water-based acrylic emulsion: Because it contains emulsifiers and other ingredients, its stability is affected by the type and dosage of emulsifiers, temperature, stirring speed and other factors to a certain extent, and there may be problems such as breaking milk and delamination.

Particle size

Water-based acrylic resin: if it is water-dispersed, its particle size is usually between tens of nanometers and hundreds of nanometers; If it is water-soluble, it is molecularly dispersed and the particle size is smaller.

• Water-based acrylic emulsion: the particle size of the emulsion is generally between a few hundred nanometers and a few microns, which is relatively large.

5.Application field:

Water-based acrylic resin :widely used in coatings, inks, adhesives, textile and leather additives and other fields. In coatings, it can be used to prepare high-performance industrial coatings, automotive coatings, etc. In the ink, can be used to prepare high gloss, wear resistant ink; In the adhesive, can be used to prepare high strength adhesive.

• Water-based acrylic emulsion: mainly used in the field of architectural coatings, such as interior wall coatings, exterior wall coatings, waterproof coatings, etc., can also be used in some adhesives and textile additives with low film formation requirements.
