What are the advantages of using water-based polyurethane for fabric coating
Fabric coating is a processing technology developed in textile finishing because it can give fabrics various functions, unique style, feel, and appearance, and increase product added value. Therefore, coated textile products are constantly emerging internationally, and their application fields are becoming increasingly wide. The low-temperature resistance, high elasticity, and high modulus of polyurethane coating agents are its most prominent characteristics. However, most polyurethane coating agents are solvent-based, and two-component solvent-based polyurethanes offer better performance. With increasing environmental awareness and the improvement of environmental laws and regulations, waterborne polyurethanes replacing solvent-based polyurethanes has become an inevitable trend.
Waterborne polyurethanes exhibit good adhesion to various substrates, providing fabrics with a soft and full hand feel and leather-like texture, abrasion resistance, wrinkle resistance, shrinkage prevention, resilience, flexibility, breathability, and moisture absorption. Adjusting the polyurethane polymer structure can also be used for waterproofing, oil resistance, stain resistance, and anti-pilling finishing of fabrics. It can be used as a durable setting agent, anti-wrinkle and shrinkage agent, abrasion-resistant agent, hand feel improver, imitation leather finishing agent, and multi-purpose adhesive. In addition to the above advantages, waterborne polyurethanes can be widely combined with other waterborne or emulsion resins or additives, such as waterborne formaldehyde resins, epoxy resins, alkyd resins, acrylic resins, silicone resins, fluoropolymers, rubber latexes, paste resins, and other resins. By employing blending methods, polymer "alloys" can be prepared, leveraging the advantages of different materials while effectively reducing costs, yielding unexpectedly positive results.
